Adrenaline Rompharm 1 mg/ml, solution for injection
Therapeutic indications
Adrenaline Rompharm 1 mg/ml, solution for injection is indicated for: cardiovascular arrest (cardiopulmonary resuscitation), anaphylactic shock, severe anaphylactic reactions (stage III and IV), non-primary therapy for septic shock,
locally for vasoconstriction (e.g., in case of superficial haemorrhage), but not for surgical procedures on the eye or injured ear or prior to a surgical procedure on the ear.
Epinephrine as INN refers to the biologically active, levorotatory or R-(-)-adrenaline; it is the physiological hormone from the chromaffin cells of the adrenal medulla. Pure epinephrine is also the active ingredient of Adrenaline Rompharm 1 mg/ml solution for injection.
During synthesis, a non-physiological and practically inactive dextrorotatory or S-(+)-adrenaline is also produced in the same quantity; the raw synthetic adrenaline is therefore optically inactive and biologically only half as effective. It obtains its full hormonal activity by separating the non-physiological dextrorotatory fraction.
The physiological functions of epinephrine are beta receptor-mediated regulation of heart rate, and myocardial contractility, smooth muscle tone, glandular secretion and, above all, metabolic activity under stress.
